Welcome to Class 1
We are a mixed Nursery/Reception/Year 1 class. Mrs Hudson is the teacher with Mrs Williams assisting in class Monday-Thursday and Mrs Lovett on Fridays.
We have a huge indoor space with one side of the classroom set up with Areas of Provision to provide quality learning experiences, through exploration and play, for our younger members of the class and one side set up as a Year 1 classroom for the older pupils, to support and develop their learning in all areas of the Year 1 curriculum.
Our outdoor area is also extensive and provides a fantastic opportunity for activities based on developing gross motor skills as well as excellent, active learning experiences covering all areas of the EYFS and Year 1 curriculum.
PE is taught on Monday afternoons and we ask that pupils come into school in their PE kits on these days.
Individual reading takes place on a daily basis in class. Once your child reaches the stage of being given a reading book, they will bring this home to read to a family member each evening. Please ensure a comment is recorded in their reading record, each time, so that we can see they have read to somebody.
Homework is different depending on age and stage of development.

The timetable for the day is different depending on the age and stage of development of each pupil. Nursery and Reception pupils are provided with more opportunities to choose and explore in AOP throughout the day as well as a daily adult led phonics and maths session.
For the Year 1 pupils, things are slightly more structured with daily Phonics, Maths, English/Topic lessons and daily reading incorporated into their timetable. Other subjects such as Art, DT, RE, MFL, Music and Computing are also timetabled throughout the week, with the younger pupils having the opportunity to join in with these lessons where appropriate.
We feel it is essential to work together as teachers and parents/carers to ensure the best for each child. Through meetings, home reading books and our class tweets on Twitter and Weduc, parents/carers can keep up to date with what is happening in Class 1.
We record the learning experiences and activities of all our Nursery and Reception pupils on an online Learning Journal called Tapestry. You will receive an email with a link to your child’s page, where you cannot only keep up to date on what they are learning in school but you can also like or comment on these observations and photos. There is also the opportunity for you to add any photos or comments from what your child has been learning at home or whilst out and about to your child’s journal.
