The Woodfield PE Curriculum

Planning for progression of knowledge within the Woodfield PE and School Sport Curriculum

Our long term planning and PE curriculum is sequenced following the National Curriculum ensuring that knowledge and skills within Physical Education are covered and taught across Key Stage 1 and 2.

Medium-term sequencing is considered by individual teachers using the North Yorkshire Sports I can statements when planning a sequence of lessons. It is left to individual teachers to plan this sequence as they are best placed to make the most appropriate decisions for their class.

Short Term Planning documents are used as a live working tool that enables teachers to plan proactively and reactively, giving feedback and building upon prior knowledge, effectively sequencing learning.

Intent

It is our aim to instil in our children a love for Physical Education and Sport. We will provide opportunities for children to acquire and develop physical skills alongside applying skills acquired in different sporting situations and evaluating and improving their performance. We will develop the children’s resilience, confidence and independence through all aspects of PE. Teamwork, honesty, passion, self belief and determination will be an integral part of all PE sessions as we believe these skills are necessary for children to become good all rounded citizens.  Our aim is to provide all children with the opportunities to take part in a intra and inter school sports competitions throughout their time at Woodfield.

We are a member of the Harrogate School Sports Partnership and enter a range of competitions against local schools. All children are given the opportunity to take part in these competitions and gain new experiences through sport.  These competitions include swimming, football, Change4Life, dodgeball and basketball to name a few.

More information can be found at the partnerships website: https://www.harrogatessp.com/

We run extra curricular sports clubs after school, these include one run by Harrogate Town Football Club. All children across the school have access to these as we encourage children to be as active as possible. Currently we run three sports after school clubs.
