I am a Primary School teacher working at a school  in Bradford.  However, I have been closely connected to Woodfield School for over twenty years and live close to the school.  Both my children went to Woodfield and I was previously a governor for about ten years.  I stood down from the governing body when I was offered part time work at the school as a One to One Writing Tutor, a position I held for two years.  Last Spring I was co-opted back onto the governing body and I am currently the Vice Chair.  I am retiring at the end of this academic year and hope to be able to give Woodfield more of my time in my retirement.

I live locally with my wife, Kath. We are now Grandparents. I believe that we should provide children with the best education available.  As a local councillor on both North Yorkshire County Council (Bilton and Nidd Gorge) and Harrogate Borough Council (Old Bilton), I hope to bring to bear some of that experience to help support the school in its future development.

After a long career in Retail, holding various senior positions including Chief Executive, I now run a management consultancy / coaching business and am an associate lecturer at University of York and Manchester Business School.

I was nominated as Chair of Governors in September 2018 following the resignation of the previous Chair having been co-opted onto the Governing Body as part of the support provided by Willow Tree Primary School. I am committed to helping the School rebuild and grow and wish to see all of the children reach their potential.

I am the part-owner of a small transport consultancy business that started in Harrogate, and work across the North of England, often testing the train services to the limit. Running a small business is a very hands-on role and I try to bring my financial and business planning skills to help the smooth running of the School.

My name is Louise Downend, I'm a parent governor here at Woodfield Community Primary School. I have a husband and three boys, my eldest boy is in Curlews class, my middle boy is in Swallows class and my youngest is 2 years old and will hopefully follow in his brothers foot steps and attend Woodfield too when the time comes.

Before I had children (which feels another lifetime ago) I was the Reservations Manager in a large local hotel. I handed in my notice when my second child was born and I've been a happy stay home mum ever since. In my spare time (Not that I have much of that) I enjoy catching up with friends, cooking, sewing and gardening.

I became a Parent Governor in 2016.

As soon as my son started in reception, it was obvious to me that this was a very special school. I particularly had a soft spot for the early years side of the school. I really warmed to the "open door" approach from all the teachers. I felt very included in my child's learning and it was obvious that they, not only work hard they all really care for each individual child and their success.

When the school advertised for a parent governor I jumped at the chance to volunteer and help wherever I could.

My children love this school, and I know they are happy. This is down to the teachers and the school community.

I am a Nurse Practitioner working in a local GP Practice. I am also a lecturer in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of York.

I have three children, all of whom have attended Woodfield School, with the eldest starting there in 2011. The youngest is currently in year 4.  I have had a long association therefore with the school and I want to try to give something in return for what the staff at Woodfield have given to my children over the last 8 years. I hope my skills in health and education add to the strength of the school governors.

I have always worked in Education, having been a teacher and then a headteacher for a number of years in Cumbria, Essex and Suffolk. Now I am working as a school adviser. When my four children were still at home I served on the governing board of our local secondary school. Having returned to live in my home county, in Harrogate, I was keen to get involved in and give something back to the community, hence becoming a school governor at Woodfield.

I grew up in Harrogate and I am keen to contribute to the local community. I am therefore delighted to be appointed a Governor of Woodfield Primary School.

I am currently working as a Policy Advisor at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Before that, I completed a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Leeds. In my role as Governor I would like to help children develop a love for STEM subjects, and an appreciation and understanding of our natural environment and their place in it.

I served as a police officer for 26 years with both North and West Yorkshire Police,  having been a superintendent in various roles including a Leeds Policing Division.  I have also held roles including responsibilities for the force change programme delivering large budget reductions. This includes experience of leading and implementing large organisational reviews and  change programmes involving significant financial restructuring.

I was also seconded until 2016 to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) responsible for leading inspections of police forces and supporting the improvement in policing.

I now work as a Business Change Consultant focussed on the blue light emergency services.   I also continue to be involved in the inspection of both the police, and more recently the fire and rescue services, particularly focussing on organisational efficiency and resourcing.

In joining the governing body as a local authority governor, I intend to support the wider governing body and leadership team at Woodfield in making improvements and raising educational standards for children in advance of the school moving towards academy status.
