At Woodfield Community Primary School we believe children should learn to respect and care for themselves, each other, all adults, their community and their environment to enable them to be informed, active, responsible and healthy citizens.
This aim is achieved through discrete PSHE lessons, delivering the North Yorkshire PSHE and Citizenship curriculum, and through our school ethos and culture. PSHE is explored through regular circle time, a formal PSHE curriculum, collective worship time, the school value and British value, enhancement days, themed weeks and extra-curricular activities.
The PSHE curriculum is further enhanced through school activities such as School Council, Ecoclub (an Environmental group) and Sports Leaders. These provide leadership opportunities for a wide range of pupils. For additional information see our PSHE policy under Policies.
Sex and Relationships Education (SRE)
Although this is not a statutory part of the 2014 curriculum we believe SRE has a vital role to play in the personal, emotional and social development of our children. The SRE curriculum covers three main elements: Attitudes and values, personal and social skills and knowledge and understanding. These are mostly delivered by the class teacher as part of PSHE, RE, Science and PE lessons. Opportunities may also arise as a result of children’s enquiries, events in a child’s home life (such as a marriage, pregnancy etc) or other circumstances. E-safety (staying safe online) is covered as part of the Computing curriculum.
