We hope that you and your family are safe and well during this unprecedented time. We hope you had a lovely Easter and enjoyed some of the sunnier weather.
My name is Mathew Atkinson and I am the Executive Head Teacher who will be working at Woodfield two days a week. I will be working alongside Miss Marwood who will be the Head of School and will be in school full time. I know that some of you have already had the opportunity to meet Miss Marwood during Mr Davies absence. Unfortunately, the parents’ meeting and coffee mornings that we wanted to hold last term to meet you all were not possible due to recent events. We are very much looking forward to meeting you soon. So that you can put a face to the name, we have included a picture of us below.
Despite school being closed, we are continuing to follow the work undertaken by Mr Davies and the staff to bring about the necessary improvements at Woodfield. Myself and Miss Marwood will be using this time to ensure we are working with the staff to plan an exciting curriculum ready for when the children do return.
We are not sure how long we will be closed and the current lockdown makes it unsafe for us to invite you to come to school to collect further work. Therefore, we will continue to add ideas each week to our Home Learning Page which can be found on the class pages on the school website. That said, we also feel the waves of stress and anxiety during these times. Parents may feel overwhelmed by everything that’s happening and everyone’s circumstances are different; so please only do what you can.
Don’t worry about your child falling behind. All children work at different rates and there is a wide range of abilities in each class. Children work at different paces and this will be taken into consideration when the children return to education. If children could learn all new concepts without specific teaching, we wouldn’t need teachers. All children across the country will have missed a similar amount of time in school and we are working hard to ensure plans are in place for when we do return to Woodfield.
If you can, our ideal for the children in our school is….
- Share a story with them every day.
- Physical activity- perhaps follow Joe Wicks who is on YouTube each morning.
- Writing stories, comics, diaries, scrap books or poems.
- Drawing, painting or anything arty. Many artists have daily drawing session that you can follow along with at home
- Maths- try practical maths through the cookery many of you I am sure are doing at home.
Remember- building with Lego or blocks, drawing, playing in the mud, cooking and sharing stories are all fabulous learning opportunities. So keep it up!
You are doing enough. You are loving your children and supporting them through a difficult time. Minimising stress in a time like this is vital for our mental health. Look after yourselves.
We are really proud of all our staff for their efforts during this difficult time. We are continuing to provide care for some of our families out of Grove Road Primary School. We have a member of Woodfield staff there everyday looking after our children.
Lastly, we will get through this and Woodfield will return stronger than ever. Should you wish to contact us about any specific matters please do not hesitate to contact us through the school office email or the Grove Road phone number – 01423 506060.
Take care of yourselves and your families.
Mr Atkinson Miss Marwood
