Dear Parents / Carers
Woodfield - Opening Plans June 2020

I hope you and your families are well and are keeping safe. School staff are very much missing you and your children. I would like to start this letter by paying a great testament to our staff who have worked tirelessly since schools closed in March. Most of our staff have still been working in our provision for key worker and vulnerable pupils throughout this time- school has not been closed. I want to say a big thank you to our staff for their commitment to our children.

As you know schools are being asked to plan for a phased reopening from Monday 1st June at the earliest.  This will be done in stages and will be for children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6; we will continue to be open for those children who already accessing our provision for Key Worker families. Children in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 are to remain at home and we will continue to post ideas for home learning on our class pages on the school website.

Here at Woodfield, a lot of time has gone into planning the reopening with staff and thinking carefully about how we can keep everybody as safe as possible.

It is parent’s choice whether they decide to send their children into school. The government have made clear they will not fine parents for keeping their children at home at this time. If you as parents have concerns over sending your children back to school, we would absolutely support you in the decision to keep your child/ren out of school. As I have said there will be no fines for non-attendance nor will it affect their attendance record.

Below is a table of dates that explain how we plan to reopen school to selected year groups in a phased way. Please note that these arrangements may be subject to change dependant on any announcements that the government make or changes in staffing. We will inform you of any changes as soon as we can.

To welcome the children back we have had to make a number of changes to the school day and the building which I would like to tell you about.

  • Children will be split into smaller classes of no more than 15 children. Where possible they will be taught by the same teachers each day or they may have two teachers who work part time.

  • Parents will collect from the same gate they dropped off at, maintaining the 2metre social distancing rules. Only one parent should drop off/ collect.

  • Groups of children will have staggered playtimes and lunchtime so that groups are kept as  separate as possible in school.
  • The kitchen will be open as normal and providing school dinners to those who need them or are entitled to free school meals. If your child receives free school meals and you decide to send them back to school, you will no longer receive the government EdenRed vouchers.  If your child is not attending school then you will continue to receive the government vouchers. The final week for Woodfield food vouchers for families who have received them will be the week of half term.
  • If Parents need to speak to a member of the office staff they are asked to ring the school office on 01423 566494or email [email protected]

Whilst we appreciate this is a very distressing time I would like to reiterate we are following the government guidance which has been issued. Children will remain in small groups but it is clear that 2m social distancing will not be possible for children within these groups. I would like to reiterate that it is parent’s choice whether they decide to send their children into school.

Parents and children are reminded that if they, or their child, are showing any symptoms they must not come to school. If we feel a child is displaying symptoms they will be placed in a separate room in school and parents will be asked to come to collect them. A reminder of the symptoms are below.

We look forward to seeing your children soon.

Stay safe,

Kind regards
